Quantum Hardware Design Automation Engineer
Barcelona
Description
Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech is a leading European quantum computing company. We deliver cutting-edge analog and digital-analog quantum computing platforms to top-tier research institutions and industrial partners. Our mission is to bring practical quantum advantage to the world through high-performance systems and expert services.
We are now expanding our Deployment Team to support ambitious initiatives like EuroQCS, and we are looking for motivated hands-on professionals to help us build and install our next-generation quantum computers.
Why we’re hiring
Qilimanjaro is expanding its quantum hardware design automation efforts as our superconducting systems scale.
We are looking for an early-career engineer who enjoys coding and wants to develop practical skills in:
- Python-based layout generation
- Quantum hardware CAD workflows
- Electromagnetic simulation support
- Superconducting packaging and interconnect design
You do not need prior quantum experience, you will learn with mentorship from experienced engineers.
The Role
This role is a great fit for a recent graduate or junior engineer who wants hands-on exposure to real quantum hardware development.
You will contribute to our internal design automation framework QCGDS (similar in spirit to Qiskit Metal), helping build reusable tools and workflows for next-generation quantum processors.
What you will do
- Write Python code to help generate parametric layouts using QCGDS
- Support simulation studies of resonators, couplers, and interconnects
- Learn how to interface design tools with EM solvers (HFSS/ADS/CST)
- Help maintain reusable component libraries
- Participate in design iterations with chip and packaging engineers
- Contribute to automation scripts for reporting and post-processing
Minimum requirements
Required
- BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Telecommunications, or similar
- Comfortable with Python (coursework or project experience is enough)
- Interest in RF, microwave engineering, or hardware design
- Motivation to learn design automation and simulation workflows
Nice to have
- Exposure to Qiskit Metal or parametric CAD tools
- Any experience with EM simulation software
- Git or basic software development practices
PhD is not required. Early-career candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
Mentorship and growth:
You will be supported by senior engineers and will gradually grow into responsibilities such as:
- building larger design modules
- running full simulation pipelines
- contributing to scalable quantum packaging architectures
Why don’t you join us? 🥇
We offer:
- A unique opportunity to work on real superconducting quantum hardware
- Strong mentorship and technical growth
- Hands-on lab + design experience in Barcelona
- Competitive salary for junior-level roles
- Clear development path toward Quantum Hardware CAD Engineer
Benefits:
🏥 Private health insurance
💳 Cobee flexible compensation (transportation, meals, and childcare support)
⏰ Flexible working hours
🏡 Hybrid work model
