Senior Quantum Calibration Engineer

Description

Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech is seeking a Senior Quantum Calibration Engineer to support the calibration, control, and characterization of superconducting quantum processors. This role focuses on the experimental operation of multi-qubit devices, with work expected to be distributed between transmon- and fluxonium-based quantum architectures.

We are particularly interested in candidates with strong experience in transmon-based systems, complementing our existing expertise. The ideal candidate is motivated to improve the performance, stability, and reproducibility of established quantum hardware, while contributing positively to a collaborative and technically rigorous R&D environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Calibrate and operate multi-qubit superconducting quantum processors based on established digital or analog architectures.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain calibration procedures for qubit control, readout, and multi-qubit operations.
  • Perform systematic characterization of device performance, stability, and crosstalk.
  • Carry out measurements on both transmon- and fluxonium-based superconducting circuits.
  • Collaborate closely with design, fabrication, integration, and software teams to ensure efficient experimental workflows.
  • Document calibration procedures, experimental results, and best practices to support reproducibility and scalability.

Minimum requirements

  • PhD in Physics or a closely related field, with a strong focus on superconducting quantum circuits.
  • Demonstrated experience in quantum measurement and calibration of transmon qubits.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a systematic approach to experimental work.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong experience calibrating and measuring multi-qubit transmon-based quantum processors.
  • Experience measuring fluxonium-based superconducting circuits.
  • Experience with tunable couplers.
  • Familiarity with calibration workflows for digital quantum architectures.
  • Proficiency in Python or similar programming languages for experiment control and data analysis.
  • Experience with designing and/or fabricating superconducting devices.
  • Ability to contribute to mentoring, knowledge transfer, and healthy team dynamics.

Additional Information

The main working location is Barcelona, with a significant onsite presence expected and some flexibility for remote work during the week. Occasional work at other locations where quantum systems are installed may be required.

Please mention your availability dates and whether you require an EU work permit in your application.
